DCS hits over 2000 members!

So it has been a while that I have blogged...busy, busy...but I thought now would be a good time to share what has been going on with Dallas Christian Singles...in just a little over a year, our group has grown from nothing, to over 2000 members. Wow! God is good. It just goes to show how great the need is for Christian fellowship among singles in our area... and this is only D/FW! Our group is comprised of people who attend over 200 churches in the metroplex. We have created a safe environment for Christians to come together in many different venues, we have helped new people in town to find new churches and we have just had some great fun! Dallas Christian Singles/ 80's Party

So we had a fun, fun, fun event recently with the Dallas Christian Singles (DCS) group that I am an Assistant Organizer for...here are some fun pictures. We had almost 200 attendees with a rockin' DJ, great food and a fun slide show with pictures from our past year events. This marks our one year anniversary of the Dallas Christian Singles...we have grown to over 1300 members! God rocks...it is amazing how He can bring people together from all differenct backgrounds, churches and cities to fellowship and make a difference in others' lives.

OK, so I finally have pictures to share. I think this wedding turned out beautiful. I hope the pictures do it justice. The colors were orange and green and looked just great. Some of the pics will be of the tent in the early stages as well as the final product.

The ceremony site was the bride's parents' back yard. They had an arbor built with steps just specificially for this wedding. There were approximately 160 guests.

Successful Event!

Wow...what an undertaking...but it went beautifully. With 160 guests and an all outdoor wedding, in August, there were not hitches to speak of. I will have pictures posted soon.

I learned so much from doing this event...like how valuable my time REALLY is! And how there are some things that you just don't think of, like what happens if the power goes out due to too much voltage! Which DID happen, but just for a brief moment and we were able to get everything back up and running...it was the band's fault for having such massive lights!

I also learned to ask more questions about how many helpers we will have for setup and during the ceremony/reception...there never seemed to be enough. Which meant more manual labor for me! Ugh. Can you raise your rate mid-job?? Haha.

I did realize I am not sure I want this as a full-time career, but would be happy/content to do it on the side...maybe a few weddings each year. I truly enjoyed the whole process...it was scary at times because I was treading in new territory, but God had His hand in all of it and of course He brought me through all of it seamlessly. Do I have sore arms and feet from working so hard this weekend, YES! Am I glad I did it, YES! There are not many things better than witnessing two people in love, vowing to stay together for better or for worse. I think that is the best part of planning a wedding.

I think with 3 weddings behind me, and with the magnitude of this last one, I am ready for another...maybe in 2009. :)

The tent is going up!

The tent is going up as I type...yahoo. I can't wait to see how it turns out. The weather is going to cooperate as it looks like no rain through the weekend!! The "guts" will go under the tent on Thursday and I will go do a check on everything.

The biggest problem right now: locating metal buckets to place on the tables for the crab claws! Who would have thunk it?! I think we found some on a random website for buckets. Interesting!

Place cards and seating charts are at the printers...waiting for a proof...we are down to the last few days. Getting a little anxious. No issues at the moment, thank goodness. I hope to have some pics to post on Thursday.

The day is fast approaching!

So, it is about 2 weeks out to the wedding and things are coming together so great. No more hiccups and things are going smoothly. Thank The Lord for Ducky Bobs rentals!! They are awesome...they provide anything you could possibly want and more.

We are down to finalizing the guest list, seating arrangements and decorations. We have a total of almost 150 guests so this is going to be quite a nice wedding! The tent will be delivered next week so that will be the next big job. I will need to ensure the tent is set up properly and the "guts" are set up properly. This is so much fun and the closer it gets the more exciting it is...I can't wait to see the finished product...and by the way, D Magazine may actually be there to photograph this wedding!

Realities of Wedding Planning

So I have learned some things over the past few months in working with the wedding party...I learned I need to ask specific questions to find out what is the most important thing to the bride. After all, it is her special day and my job is to make sure her day is most special without too much drama or stress. Find out the top 3 important items and focus on those.

I have learned delegating can be fun...as a part of my coordinator duties, I am to keep everything on track, but that does not mean I have to do everything myself. Others involved are willing to participate when asked. This is a very good thing!

And lastly, I have learned the gift of encouragement plays a truly important role during this time. When everyone is anxious and stressed out, I can be a constant that keeps everything together. Since I am not vested emotionally in the situation, it is easier for me to encourage everyone and keep things running smooth. Phil 4:6

The wedding I planned last year was a real joy! One of my best friends, who met her soulmate by leading a small group at church together (I take the credit, I brought her to church!), married in October. They are wonderful, beautiful people and I love them dearly...here are some pictures from the beautiful wedding they had at her home.
